According to this invention, individual etched ion tracks are used as scattering centers. The divergence angle of scattered light depends on the cone angle, while its intensity increases with the density of scattering centers. In this way, it is possible to adjust the fraction of scattered light. The suggested screen enables to extract a predetermined fraction of a light for monitoring purposes. The screen has a roughened semi-transparent surface for diffusing incident radiation and a flat surface to adapt it to other optical components. The surface is comprised of etched track cones defining the roughness.
