Superfluid pressure sensor (in German).

Superfluidity depends on flow velocity. With decreasing channel cross section the flow velocity increases. The suggested sensor consists of a drum like oscillator separated from its environment by a metalized ion track membrane containing many channels. The superfluid communicates through the membrane channels. Whenever the pressure difference between the container and its environment exceeds a critical value, an avalanche of microscopic blocking events is ignited in the membrane, spreading over the whole membrane. The resulting macroscopic blocking event leads to a membrane oscillation which is sensed by a flat counter electrode.
