The influence of multiple holes on particle transmission in nuclear track filters is investigated using a two-dimensional model. Upper and lower limits for the transmission are given by the "areal transmission function" Ts and the "particle transmission function" Tr, respectively. The empirical functions were obtained from computer simulation and image analysis of etched nuclear tracks. They enable one to estimate the actual transmission function T of a nuclear track filter up to very high porosities, P ≈ 50%, by interpolation.
